A comparison of amalgam microleakage with a 4-META liner and copal varnish

Abstract

This in vitro study compared the microleakage of Class 5 amalgam restorafions placed in extracted human feeth lined witfi a 4-META liner (Amalgambond), wifh similar restorafions lined with copal varnish (Copalife), The resfored teeth were stored in saline for 1 week, 6 monfhs, and f year, fhen thermocycled, stained with 5% methylene blue, sectioned, and viewed using a light microscope. It was found that at f week and 6 monfhs the 4-META group leaked significantly less than the copal resin group, but after f year there was no significanf difference between groups.
