Abstract
However, lagging behind some of the most innovative, web-based human capital developments is the practice of job analysis. Most organizations still identify job analytic data using traditional methods, including face-to-face interviews with individuals or panels (Sanchez, 2000). Despite the availability of online methods, the use of the Internet to generate job analytic information has not received widespread attention in research, practice, or theory. is is likely because online methodologies are perceived as less rigorous and defensible than traditional approaches, and there is a comfort level with the “tried and true.” Although this perception of many web-based job analysis products is not necessarily inaccurate, there are certainly approaches and procedures that provide defensibility and ensure job analytic validity. e purpose of this chapter is to describe the development and implementation of a rigorous online job analysis system, already used globally, that relies upon the best practices from numerous approaches to enhance online job analysis data collection e orts and validity. e foundations of this system include taxonomic linkages, structured responses, standardized components, and embedded scienti c principles as well as web-based facilitation practices.
