Transition metal-catalyzed reactions have wide appeal in solid phase organic synthesis due to the mild reaction conditions, compatibility with a broad range of functionalities, and high reaction yields. This article presents a comprehensive review of the non-patent literature transition metal-catalyzed reactions on solid support up to the end of 1998. Particular emphasis is placed on the catalyst, reaction amounts and resin used. The reactions discussed fall within four main categories: solid phase ruthenium- catalyzed metathesis chemistry, solid phase palladium-catalyzed coupling (named reactions), other solid phase palladium-catalyzed reactions and a small section containing applications of rhodium- and other transition metal- mediated reactions.
