Abstract

Maternal serum and amniotic fluid alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) determination has become widely used in prenatal maternal evaluation. The calculation of the results is cumbersome and dependent on several factors, including gestational age, weight, and race. A Lotus-123 Macro subprogram was developed to collect the needed data elements and perform the required calculations. A brief summary of AFP testing, the calculations required, and the Macro subprogram is presented.
