Abstract
Systematic review conclusion. Treatment of periodontal disease with scaling and root planing (SRP) during pregnancy is unlikely to reduce the risk of preterm birth or low birth weight. Critical summary assessment. A meta-analysis of 11 randomized controlled trials, including recently published high-quality studies, showed no evidence that SRP during pregnancy prevents preterm birth or other adverse pregnancy outcomes. Evidence quality rating. Good.
