Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the problem of designing a WDM switching network with multicast capability. We propose, for the first time, a WDM Banyan switching network that is capable of replicating input signals on "different" wavelengths. Wavelength conversion in the proposed Banyan network occurs between two predefined wavelengths, and hence, the conversion cost is reduced. The new Banyan network can be used to construct wide-sense and strict-sense nonblocking WDM Mmulticast optical cross connects (MC-OXCs).
