Abstract
Acute myocardial ischemia following successful weaning from cardiopulmonary bypass occurred in two patients who underwent correction of atrial septal defects. In both cases the ischemia episode was defected by ECG changes. The most likely cause in both was suction applied to mediastinal chest tubes interfering with myocardial perfusion. This complication of chest tubes has not been previously reported.
