Abstract

The electrical discharge machining (EDM) process provides one of the best alternatives or sometimes the only alternative to machine a number of high-strength and corrosion and wear reistant materials used in a broad spectrum of industries. This paper presents an overview of recent research efforts in process modeling, surface integrity evaluation and estimation. The development of on-line monitoring and control of the gap conditions, development of semiconductive electrodes, horizontal EDM, techniques of electrode forming, technological databases, and expert systems are also mentioned.
