Abstract

A review of the syntheses and uses of silver N-heterocyclic carbenes up to June 30, 2005 is given. Topics discussed include: the bonding of N-heterocyclic carbenes with an emphasis on specifically how they bond to silver (I); syntheses of silver NHCs; structural motifs of silver NHCs; spectral properties of NHCs; and uses of silver NHCs as transfer reagents, as possible antimicrobial agents, and as catalysts.
