Abstract

The problem of multiobjective optimization in production processes is addressed from the viewpoint of offline planning of machining operations. A brief description is given of the multiobjective problem in the context of the problems in manufacturing. An optimization model using the method of constraints is developed for optimal selection of conditions in an electrical-discharge machining (EDM) process. The model's mathematical formulation makes it amenable to supporting a process-planning expert system.
