Abstract
The genus Bordetellaconsists of eight species of bacteria. Bordetella pertussis, the most important human pathogen of this group, is the primary etiological agent of whooping cough (pertussis). B. parapertussis can cause a pertussis-like infection that is less common and less severe than that caused by B. pertussis.
