N2 - Focus and concentration on tasks is essential for optimum academic performance. Students can achieve higher grades by staying focused on their studies. However, staying focused on an academic task is not easy with the technological distractions currently surrounding students. The vast majority of college students possess a smart cellphone and use it often for many different reasons. Having the constant ding, ring, and vibration of notifications can be a serious distraction to staying on task. We seek to: 1) quantify the problem of cellphone distractions, 2) examine the effectiveness of existing applications, and 3) explore alternative solutions.
