Abstract

Isotactic polypropylene of intermediate molecular weight has been isothermally squeezed between circular plates to provide a planar orientation. The deformation process has been carried out at a series of isothermal temperatures (20 to 130 degree C) and at a draw ratio, i. e. thickness reduction, up to 23x and at two deformation rates. A morphological transformation from the monoclinic alpha -form crystal to smectic phase was observed.
