Comparison of local anesthetic-cyclodextrin non-covalent complexes using capillary electrophoresis and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry

Abstract

Using capillary electrophoresis and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry local anesthetic-cyclodextrin non-covalent complexes were compared. The separation of six local anesthetics, proparacaine, meprilcaine, lidocaine, prilocaine, dibucaine and dyclonine using three different cyclodextrins were studied. To determine the stability of the complexes in the gas phase using ESI_MS, the fraction of cyclodextrin (CD) complexed with each analyte was calculated. The association strengths order of the local anesthetics with all the CD's was dyclonine > dibucaine > meprilcaine > prilocaine > lidocaine > proparacaine.
