N2 - In this case study, the ingestion and subsequent metabolism of a medication in an individual are examined through computational modeling and simulation. A multi-compartment model is used to study ingestion, distribution, and metabolism of a medication in an individual. This paper provides background information on the mechanism of action of medication in pharmacological terms and the significance of pharmacokinetic parameters in determining the efficacy of a medication, in particular, the medication that is ingested orally. The orally taken medication enters the gastrointestinal tract from where it is then distributed throughout the bloodstream of the individual to be metabolized and eliminated.
