A framework for development of office automation models is presented. Within the framework, persons and processors work symbiotically to accomplish office objectives. An office is described as a continuum of persons on one end and fully automated processors on the other end. The office is more or less automated depending on the extent of processor activity as compared to person activity. The activities of an office are divided into five functional groups: office precedures, calendaring, communications, control, and software support. These five functional groups cover the entire span of office activities and present an integrated view for any office automation model. Based on the conceptual framework, notation for developing a specific model is presented and an example is given to illustrate the approach.
