Abstract

We present an advanced fiber fabrication method for continuous manufacturing of composite living fibers (CLFs) with a mechanically strong core thread coated with layers of cell- or submicron bead-laden hydrogels. To demonstrate the suitability of the fabricated CFLs for textile processes, we assemble them into complex 3D structures with braiding and knitting methods. Our results indicate that the CLFs hold their mechanical integrity during the manufacturing process. Our method lays the foundation for making advanced engineered tissue constructs using textile processes.
