Abstract

We have observed de Haas-Shubnikov oscillations in a single crystal of tungsten in magnetic fields between 55 and 105 kG. The amplitudes are compared to those predicted by the oscillatory relaxation time mechanism proposed by Pippard, and while the field dependence of the amplitude agrees with the theory, the measured absolute amplitudes are too large by a factor of about three. This discrepancy probably results from the assumption of an isotropic relaxation time.
