N2 - Patients with acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock can be stabilized by intra‐aortic balloon pump insertion. Mechanical hemodynamic support also provides a margin of safety that is essential before proceeding with cardiac catheterization and coronary angioplasty. However, the required percutaneous transfemoral technique may be traumatic or impossible when peripheral vascular disease exists. Emergency peripheral balloon angioplasty, in the setting of car‐diogenic shock, can circumvent major procedural limitations imposed by the presence of severe arterial occlusive disease.
