Abstract
Nerve conduction testing is an electrodiagnostic procedure that quantifies motor and sensory nerve signal transmission. Although a complete clinical examination is required to provide an accurate medical diagnosis of nerve impairment, nerve conduction testing is an important clinical tool for evaluating mononeuropathies of the upper extremities. Nerve impairment has been associated with prolonged exposure to certain cumulative trauma risk factors in the workplace such as acceleration, repetition, vibration, high force, and awkward or static postures. Besides its use by neurologists in clinical diagnostics, nerve conduction testing can also function as a useful tool for upper extremity ergonomic risk assessment in the workplace.
