The primary goal in fluid management for a patient with or at risk for ARDS is to maintain normal physiologic parameters. The type of fluid used during therapy is not as important as the amount given. Iatrogenic hydrostatic edema may significantly compound ARDS. Invasive pulmonary artery pressure monitoring is essential in the fluid management of patients with lung injury or who are at risk of developing ARDS for any reason.
