Abstract

This chapter synthesizes the volume’s findings on the vitality and importance of civic activism in encouraging desired political and social change in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). We also identify important take-home lessons from our conversations with activists from several CEE countries and activists’ own experiences. These insights suggest the conditions under which civic activism in the region is successful in achieving change and should be tested in a more comprehensive study of civic activism throughout CEE. We end the chapter with the insights and recommendations of activists for how to support and strengthen civic activism.
