Abstract

This is a landmark year for global education and development. With the expiration of the Millennium Development Goals and the Education for All goals, nations around the world are looking to the international community to map out the future of education, development, and sustainability over the next 15 years. Since the inception of the Millennium Development Goals in 2000, the international focus has shifted from access to education to access to quality education. In this article, the authors provide background information on current trends in global education and development goals, recent accomplishments, and remaining challenges to human development.
