Abstract

Over the past 10 years, the availability of pharmacologic quantities of hematopoietic growth factors has opened many avenues of study in basic science and clinical investigation. Pharmacologic agents that accelerate hematopoietic recovery obviously have the potential to improve selected therapeutic and supportive care aspects of cancer medicine. This article reviews important clinical and scientific aspects of hematopoietic growth factors, with an emphasis on their present-day use in the care of cancer patients.
