Abstract
The terminology used to describe diaphragmatic hernias may be confusing. The first step is to differentiate hernias through the esophageal hiatus from hernias through the diaphragmatic musculature. These later type are more commonly congenital in nature such as Bochdalek or Morgagni hernias. They may also result from traumatic injuries, which may present immediately after the trauma or in a delayed fashion.
