Abstract

Of the numerous agents associated with bovine abortion, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus was predominant during the winter of 1970-1971. In some herds vaccination for IBR appeared not to provide protection. Pregnant cattle raised in contact with calves that had been recently vaccinated against IBR had a greater incidence of IBR abortion than those that did not have contact with vaccinates. Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus was isolated from 15.9% of aborted fetuses that had been presumptively diagnosed as IBR based on FA and histopathological examinations.
