Abstract
Using the mathematical bases of information theory, we present a model to describe the transfer of information between sites of an allosteric enzyme. This model makes testable predictions about the behavior of the enzyme under various definable conditions. The transfer of information from regulatory to catalytic sites is modeled in terms of a communication system. The model is discussed in terms of the known characteristics of beef heart mitochondrial adenosine triphosphate (ATP)ase, but the general applicability of the model is proposed.
