Abstract

The development of a Robotic Safety Barrels (RSB) system, to help reduce work zone accidents and to provide traffic control, is discussed. The RSB automatically position themselves to divert traffic and protect traffic workers. They are the first elements of a team of Robotic Safety Markers that will include signs, cones, barricades, and ancestors. The RSB replaces the heavy base with a mobile robot that transports the heavy barrel.
