Abstract
Plants often face growth and defense trade-offs when encountering biotic and abiotic stresses. In research addressing this balance in the resistance of cotton to phytopathogenic fungi, Wang et al. (2017) have found that a riboregulator, ghr-miR5272a, limits excess immunity through inhibiting the expression of MAPKK6 - which encodes a protein that acts to defend the plant against Fusarium oxysporum - and thereby ensures cotton fitness.
