Nanofiber microspheres for cell delivery

Abstract

Statement of Purpose: Microspheres provide advantages over 3D scaffolds in that, it can be cumbersome to fabricate 3D scaffolds for filling irregular shaped defects, while microspheres can be easily injected into any defect irrespective of the shape and geometry. The injectability of microspheres confers minimally invasive treatments as against the gross surgical procedures necessary for implantation of 3D porous scaffolds. Herin, we report for the first time a new method for fabrication of nanofiber microspheres by combining electrospining and electrospraying and explore their potential applications for cell expansion and therapy.
