Abstract

A novel SODN delivery system was developed based on hydrogel particles with effective diameters from ca. 20 to 220 nm. Small particles of loaded nanogel readily entered cells. Further, antisense SODNs incorporated in nanogel revealed the ability to reach targets in the cell and efficiently suppressed gene expression in a sequence-specific fashion. Using the cell models of intestinal and blood brain barrier, the potential of nanogels for oral and brain delivery of SODN was demonstrated.
