Abstract
Paraneoplastic neuropathies are rare, often presenting before a diagnosis of cancer is made. The clinical presentation can be highly suggestive or entirely nonspecific. However, it is important to recognize paraneoplastic neuropathies because, even though treatment options are limited and often ineffective, diagnosis permits surveillance for and possible early detection of a malignancy. The pathophysiology is believed to be an immune-mediated process from cross-reacting antibodies to antigens within the tumors and peripheral nerves.
