Abstract
The prediction of image compression using conditional averages, was discussed. The decision on which context to use was based on the set of encoded pixels which was available to both encoder and decoder. The performance of the proposed predictor was compared with the GAP predictor used in CALIC and MED predictor used in JPEG-LS. The amount of gain varied from a high of 27% for the Elif image to a low of 4.4% for the Mandrill image.
