Reviews statutes and relevant case law concerning privileged communications for the psychotherapeutic professions for federal jurisdictions, the 50 states, and the District of Columbia. After analyzing the findings and comparing them with psychologists' concerns about privileged communications, it is concluded that the American Psychological Association should determine policy positions that best reflect the profession's values on these issues.
