Abstract

Over the last decade, the medical community has come to appreciate a growing number of differences in caring for older patients as compared to a younger population. This growth in knowledge includes special considerations for older patients with pulmonary disease and critical illness. This chapter will review how physiologic changes of aging alter how clinicians approach common pulmonary disease processes as well as highlight special considerations when caring for older patients with critical illness.
