Abstract
Zygomycosis is a rapidly emerging fungal infection caused by the zygomycetes. The identification of specific species in the clinical laboratory using phenotypic methods is difficult. This article provides a generalized review on the current classification and diagnostic aspects of the zygomycetes with an emphasis on the application of molecular techniques for identification.
