Abstract

Salvia bucharica belonging to the family Lamiaceae (Labiatae), afforded a novel terpenoid (1) named as salvatrione. The structure of 1 was elucidated through extensive 2-D NMR experiments and the biogenetic pathway of 1 has also been proposed. On biogenetic grounds, 1 may be considered to be a pseudo-triterpenoid as it is derived from the coupling of monol diterpenic units and not from squalene.
