Abstract
Sex roles are undergoing a major change in the US today, and it has been hypothesized that the changing sex roles will be evidenced in changed leisure behavior. This study looks at a demographic variable (sex) and two measures of masculinity-feminity (the California Psychological Inventory's Fe-scale and the Personal Attributes Questionnaires) and their relationships with leisure behavior. Sex was found to be a better explanatory variable than the personality variable, and the traditional single-continuum CPI measure was found to explain more than the newer PAQ with its concept of androgyny. Those respondents categorized as being androgynous were more likely to take part in leisure activities, watch documentaries and new programmes on television, and prefer R-rated movies. -Authors
