    Abstract

The interactions between phase, signal level, and interstimulus interval (At) were examined in the transition region between simultaneous and nonsimultaneous masking: Phase effects as large as 22 dB were observed in forward masking. These trends can be explained by considering the effects of phase upon the stimulus envelope.
