Abstract

An orthotropic finite element model of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc has been developed for calculating a fracture parameter of the disc. The geometry and the fracture load were obtained from an earlier fracture test. The J contour integral, which is one of the fracture parameter, was calculated for the disc. The simulation results demonstrated that a Young's modulus plays an important role on the critical value of the J contour integral of the disc.
