Abstract
Cotton yarn (20/1 unwaxed) was wound on an AEI Conpar precision winder with different tensions (1.0, 20.0, and 30.0 g) to study the effects of package density and density distribution on dyeing levelness. The relationship between winding tension and package density as well as package density and levelness of dyeing was discussed. The packages were dyed with C.I. Direct Blue 90. The shade depths (K/S) of the dyed yarn were measured in three different zones of each packages - inner, middle, and outer zones - to determine the levelness of dyeing. The relation between package density, density distribution, and levelness of dyeing was studied. It was found that packages with even density dyed with poorer levelness than the packages having varied density profiles.
