Abstract

Organizations are increasingly relying on creative individuals and teams to remain economically relevant. However, creative individuals and teams must be properly supported and managed. To facilitate creativity, leaders should create and promote an open and psychologically safe environment. Leaders can also manage team compositions to take advantage of diversity, while ensuring counter-productive conflict does not reduce creative performance. Further, leaders can work to link teams and individuals with additional internal and external resources, while facilitating engagement with critical stages of the creative process. Finally, leaders can facilitate creativity by promoting certain task relevant behaviors such as problem identification and construction and idea generation.
