Abstract

Dental hygienists perform tasks that are repetitive, strenuous, and can contribute to cumulative trauma disorders (CTDs) of the upper body. Besides prevalent disorders of the hand and wrist, such as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), there are many other upper extremity disorders, including thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). If a dental hygienist can identify symptoms and seek treatment early, prognosis for recovery is greatly improved.
