Abstract
The University of San Diego's Marriage and Family Therapy Training Program, and a Family Medicine Residency based in a large health maintenance organization, Sharp HealthCare, are working together to create collaborative models of training, patient services, and research initiatives. This article describes their joint efforts by summarizing key questions from the literature about integration of mental health services into primary care. A description of both programs and their joint efforts is followed by case examples of collaborative care. A summary of the programs' research initiatives and future plans concludes the description. 1996
